NHMTA, Governor Lynch Honor Seven Top Truck Drivers
Yesterday, the New Hampshire Motor Transport Association along with Governor John Lynch and Commissioner John Barthelmes of the New Hampshire Department of Safety recognized and honored seven New Hampshire professional truck drivers with the esteemed certification of Master Truck Driver. The event took place at the start of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week at the State House.
Robert J. Sculley, president of the NHMTA, stated that the professional truck driver is held to a higher standard than most other drivers and the NHMTA Master Truck Driver Certification is a method of recognizing those professional vehicle operators who have made a career of driving large vehicles and who, by their character, experience and good judgment, have contributed to the community and the safety of the driving public.
The seven drivers come from diverse New Hampshire companies: Kenneth Clement of J&F Farms in Derry; Helen Dame of BSP Trans of Londonderry; Dean Emery of Atlantic Distribution Services in Exeter; Ed Gamache of Associated Grocers of New England in Pembroke; Robert Jewett of Con-Way Freight in Manchester; Michael Rafeal of YRC Corp. in Nashua; and Clyde Sauls of H. R. Clough in Contoocock.
Each of the drivers must have driven for their company for at least one year; have driven for one million accident-free miles or 25,000 hours of accident-free driving; have received no citations within the past three years; and either have performed some meritorious act of selflessness (e.g., helped a motorist in distress), participated in some community service, and/or demonstrated leadership in a program or event that promotes/furthers the trucking industry’s ideals and growth.
The drivers were each recognized by a State Senate Resolution honoring their service to the community, an engraved plaque certifying their professional designation as a Master Truck Driver, and a specially monogrammed jacket.
A reception was held following the State House ceremony at the NHMTA offices in Concord.
