MINNEAPOLIS, MN—NASSTRAC recently recognized Doug Duncan, founding president and CEO of FedEx Freight, with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The award recognizes industry leaders who have achieved significant accomplishments on behalf of the industry through their leadership and influence in the marketplace. Gail Rutkowski, immediate past chairperson of the leading shipper transportation industry association, highlighted Duncan’s accomplishments at NASSTRAC’s recent annual logistics conference in Orlando.

Duncan recently retired from FedEx Freight, after helping to build the company into a $4.4 billion leader in the LTL marketplace. According to company officials, during Duncan’s tenure at FedEx Freight he launched many customer solutions, including a no-fee money back guarantee for LTL shipments, FedEx Freight A.M. service, and next-day service between the U.S. and Canada.

According to Rutkowski, Duncan’s achievements extend far beyond FedEx Freight. “Doug has been an outspoken advocate for investment in our country’s infrastructure,” said Rutkowski. “He backed an increase in the federal fuel tax, unchanged since 1993, in order to help pay for badly needed bridge and highway improvements.” She underscored that NASSTRAC shipper members are hopeful that those improvements will be part of the next highway reauthorization bill coming out of Washington.

In addition to his achievements at FedEx Freight and his activist accomplishments on behalf of the industry, Duncan served on the executive committee of the American Trucking Associations, was chairman of the American Transportation Research Institute, and was part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce task force to Rebuild America. Duncan was also named NASSTRAC Association Member of the Year in 2004.
