SCFI: Shanghai-to-US Spot Rates Rise on GRI

Spot container rates from Asia to the U.S. East and West coasts measured by the Shanghai Containerized Freight Index rose in the week ending Dec. 20, in response to the first round of the two-stage rate increase proposed by the Transpacific Stabilization Agreement. Carriers such as Hapag-Lloyd, OOCL, US Lines and Cosco announced general rate increases of $200 per 40-foot container, effective Dec. 20.
