WCI: Eastbound Trans-Atlantic Rates Slip

Trans-Atlantic eastbound rates slipped marginally this week while westbound rates were flat, according to the Thursday release of the World Container Index.

Rates from New York to Rotterdam slipped $15, or 0.7 percent, per 40 foot container to $2,029 per FEU. The eastbound index is 4.6 percent higher than it was at the beginning of 2013 and 4.9 percent higher than it was at this point in 2012.

Rates from Rotterdam to New York were flat at $2,393 per FEU. The westbound index has lost 2 percent since the beginning of 2013 and is 9.2 percent higher than it was at this point in 2012.
