SYDNEY, 18 March 2010: The Australia China Business Council (ACBC) and Qantas have announced a major trade mission to Shanghai, focused on small-tomedium- size enterprises (SMEs).

Taking place from 4-10 July, the mission will enable SMEs to showcase their business in the spectacular Australian Pavilion at Shanghai World Expo 2010 and provide high-level networking opportunities.

ACBC Chairman Frank Tudor said participants would benefit from access to Chinese business leaders and key government officials.

“This is a superb opportunity for Australian SMEs to pursue opportunities in one of China’s most exciting regions, the Yangtze River Delta,” Mr Tudor said.

“Taking place against the vibrant background of the Shanghai Expo, the trade mission program incorporates strategy sessions and briefings with the Australian Trade Commission and targeted business matching events.

“Australian businesses will have a captive audience of Chinese decision-makers, including at events hosted by the government of the New Pudong Area, the People’s Government of Suzhou and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.”

Qantas Chief Executive Officer Alan Joyce said the airline was pleased to be supporting the trade mission as part of its sponsorship of the Australian Pavilion. “Qantas is strongly committed to enabling and developing business ties between China and Australia,” Mr Joyce said.

“We operate daily services between Shanghai and Australia and will be active in helping promote Australian companies and business events at the Expo.

“China is a vitally important market for all Australian businesses, not least our worldclass SMEs, and we hope this trade mission helps strengthen commercial exchanges between the two nations.”

Interested businesses have a choice of two competitive options – Economy or Business – including Qantas airfares, accommodation, transfers within China and a VIP Australian Pavilion Expo event. Economy options start from $5,788 per person (single).*

The Australia China Business Council is an Associate Partner of the Australian Pavilion at Shanghai World Expo 2010. Qantas is a Gold Sponsor of the Australian Pavilion.
