SHREVEPORT, La. — AFS, a transportation cost management company based in Shreveport, LA, today announced the acquisition of parcel audit and technology firm, Logica, LLC, based in Salt Lake City, UT. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Logica, an Inc. 5000 honoree for the past three years, is the eleventh acquisition for AFS and will now serve as the organization’s parcel division. Current Logica CEO Rob Nelson will serve as Chief Technology Officer for AFS and will manage the parcel segment of the business while also heading up the development of all technology initiatives.

“The acquisition of Logica underscores the commitment of AFS to give our clients access to the best possible solutions to manage transportation costs,” said Brian J. Barker, CEO of AFS. “With this technology, backed by the expertise of the Logica team, AFS is adding to an expanding portfolio of services that will help us achieve our vision of becoming our client’s most valuable partner.”

Logica will continue to develop their spend management technology while maintaining a focus on customer experience. AFS, which immediately grows to serve over 1,000 clients and manage $1.2 billion in annual shipping spend, plans to expand Logica’s award-winning technology and use it as a launch point to expand those applications into Truckload, Ocean and LTL spend management.

“When we started Logica, we wanted to build something that would put a dent in the industry,” said Nelson. “We’ve worked tirelessly to make that happen and help companies change the way they manage their transportation spend. Plugging into the resources of AFS gives us a chance to expand that vision far more rapidly.”

The acquisition was finalized on October 31, 2012.
