WATERLOO, Ontario, Dec. 1, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Descartes Systems Group (TSX:DSG) (Nasdaq:DSGX), a federated global logistics network, has joined forces with New Trend International Logistics Technology Ltd. (NTI), a leading Chinese material handling technology provider, to extend and accelerate logistics technology infrastructure throughout China.

Descartes will combine its federated platform that unites hardware, software, networks and a community of logistics organizations with NTI's local business network to provide a comprehensive logistics information management system. This information management system includes warehouse management (WMS), transportation management (TMS) and global positioning (GPS) technologies.

The joining of these networks creates a platform which enables participants to work together to automate multi-party business processes and share critical information to accelerate productivity improvements and cost savings. The combination accelerates implementation times, the rate of cost savings and productivity improvements for end users.

Descartes' federated network combines the power of the Descartes Global Logistics Network (GLN), a community of over 22,000 companies in over 165 countries exchanging logistics information, and value-added applications working together to standardize and streamline business processes.

We are working to help speed up the development of logistics technology infrastructure in China. This relationship with Descartes and its federated network is a core strategy to help meet this objective, said Raymond Cheung, Vice President of NTI. By joining our networks together into an extended federated network, we can pre-unite members of business processes so implementation times can be shortened and returns on investment accelerated for our Chinese customers.

We have designed our federated network to easily extend to combine with our business partners and help simplify the complexities that are challenging the logistics industry, said Art Mesher, CEO of Descartes. Working together with NTI, and joining our networks to provide a comprehensive federated platform, enables our customers to accelerate the time-to-value and results our customers achieve. This is an excellent example of our how our 'United-by-Design' initiative is benefiting our customers around the world.
