CSCMP November Roundtable Event: Current Trends on Cargo Theft

Ed Petow from FreightWatch International will present about the latest cargo theft trends seen regionally and nationally, and how many of the cargo thefts that occur across the nation have a direct impact on our South Florida businesses and community. Miami has always had a reputation as one of the major cargo theft hot spots in the US, and unfortunately, that reputation continues today. Ed will explain the who, what, when, where, why and how of cargo theft. He will also discuss the increase in large scale truck thefts and warehouse burglaries that have been plaguing South Florida for the past several years and what you can do to protect your company from these crimes.

Ed will be joined by Dennis Stabile of FreightWatch International and Detective Willie Morales of the Miami-Dade Police Departments Organized Crime Bureau for a panel discussion and Q and A.

Ed Petow is the Law Enforcement Liaison for FreightWatch International. Ed joined FreightWatch after a 27 year career with the Miami-Dade Police Department. For last nine years of Ed’s tenure with Miami-Dade, he served as commander of the South Florida Cargo Theft and Hijacking Task Force, more commonly known as the “Tomcats”.

Dennis Stabile is the Miami Operations Manager for FreightWatch International. Dennis also joined FreightWatch after a 27 year career with Miami-Dade Police. Dennis served his last five years with Miami-Dade as a supervisor on the “Tomcats” Dennis is recognized as an expert on the operations of Miami based cargo thieves and his investigative assistance is regularly sought by industry and law enforcement investigators from across the country.

Detective Willie Morales is a 25 year veteran of the Miami-Dade Police Department and is currently assigned to the Organized Crime Section. Prior to his recent reassignment to Organized Crime, he was assigned to the Tomcats for 13 years. Detective Morales is recognized as an expert in cargo crimes investigations and the modus operandi of cargo criminals. He has interviewed hundreds of cargo criminals and can offer a unique insight into how they think and operate.
