ANN ARBOR, Mich., and BOSTON - June 17, 2010 - Con-way Freight, a less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE:
CNW), today announced that one of its driver sales representatives has been named Massachusetts Driver of the Year by the Massachusetts Motor Transportation Association (MMTA). Richard Sweeney of Chicopee received the honor at MMTA’s recent annual banquet, held in Waltham. Sweeney was previously recognized as Driver of the Year in 2008.

“We had many fine drivers to choose from for Driver of the Year, but Richard Sweeney best exemplified the qualities that define this award,” said Anne Lynch, executive director, Massachusetts Motor Transportation Association.
“Richard’s safety, professionalism and commitment to service made him the top candidate for MMTA’s highest honor, and we’re pleased to have him representing us on Massachusetts roads.”

To win Massachusetts Driver of the Year, drivers must live and work in Massachusetts, demonstrate professionalism and dedication both behind the wheel and in their local communities, and be considered positive examples of their employers and the industry at large. The Driver of the Year award is sponsored by the Great West Casualty Company, one of the largest insurers of trucking companies in the United States.

“Richard Sweeney is the ultimate example of a Con-way Freight driver sales representative, with a true dedication to the highest levels of safety and service on the road and at our customers’ facilities,” said John G. Labrie, president, Con-way Freight. “We congratulate Richard on this tremendous achievement.”

Sweeney is based at Con-way Freight’s Springfield service center and has been a professional truck driver for 24 years. He has worked for Con-way Freight since 1994, and recently reached the milestone of one million miles of safe driving. A frequent participant in the Massachusetts State Truck Driving Championships, he has advanced to the National Truck Driving Championships five times, winning second place in the Flatbed division in 2009. A graduate of Western New England College, Sweeney is married and has two children.
