China, the Port of Seattle's Biggest Trade Partner

JOC Staff |
SEATTLE- It is Washington Trade Week, and the Port of Seattle is taking this occasion to highlight a different trade partner for each day of the week. Today, we honor our largest import trade partner, China.

In 2009, more than $18.6 billion in waterborne commerce flowed between the Port of Seattle and China. Imports made up more than $16.5 billion of the total, mostly in toys, sports equipment, and machinery. After arriving in the Port of Seattle, 70 percent of these goods travel east to the Chicago area, where they are sold in retail stores such as Wal-Mart and Target.
