Minneapolis, MN – Dan Murray, Vice President of Research for the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI), was presented today with the William K. Smith Distinguished Service Award from the University of Minnesota Center for Transportation Studies. This recognition is extended annually to a professional in the field of freight transportation and logistics who demonstrates leadership and contributes to the education of future freight transportation leaders.

Dan has consistently exemplified the values recognized by this award; in short, a commitment to advancing transportation through excellence in research and education,” said Bill Graves, President and CEO of the American Trucking Associations.

“Dan is a true transportation professional whose contributions to his profession will long exceed his tenure,” commented Rebecca Brewster, ATRI President and COO.

The award, which is named in honor of William K. Smith, a General Mills executive who helped establish the Center for Transportation Studies, was presented by the 2007 recipient John Hausladen, President of the Minnesota Trucking Association, at a ceremony on the University of Minnesota campus.

ATRI is the trucking industry’s 501(c)(3) not-for-profit research organization. It is engaged in critical research relating to freight transportation’s essential role in maintaining a safe, secure and efficient transportation system.
