(Berlin, July 19, 2010) One of the most important international awards in the logistics industry is here again. Young scientists may apply for the DB Schenker Award 2010 by submitting their dissertations, postdoctoral qualifications or comparable academic work by August 13, 2010.

The DB Schenker Award to support the work of young scientists who have completed outstanding academic research in logistics, transportation and traffic systems has been presented each year since 1978. The DB Schenker Award is recognized as being one of the most prestigious European awards for logistics specialists. It carries a cash prize of EUR 10,000 for the winner and EUR 5,000 for the university department supervising the award-winning paper.

“Applied research is driving social change and the economic upswing. With the DB Schenker Award, we seek to promote practical research in the field of logistics in order to further increase Germany’s leading position in this sector“, said Dr. Karl-Friedrich Rausch, Member of the Management Board of DB Mobility Logistics AG responsible for the Transportation and Logistics Division.

The DB Schenker Award is an integral part of DB Schenker’s Research & Innovation program. The DB Schenker Labs research institute, an affiliated institute of the Technical University of Berlin, which focuses on a close combination of theory and practice, is another pillar of the program and is regarded as an innovation hotbed for transportation and logistics at DB. “Innovation management in the logistics sector means offering our customers the best services of the future“, says Michael Kadow, Head of Business Excellence at DB Schenker.

In addition to the close cooperation with the Technical University of Berlin, DB Schenker Labs have also developed other university partnerships. In March 2010, together with Russian Railways (RZD), the Center of International Logistics and Supply Chain Management was inaugurated in St. Petersburg. Classes are due to begin in autumn.
