Roadrunner Transportation, one of the fastest-growing U.S. trucking companies, acquired flatbed carrier D&E Transport last week for about $11.2 million.
D&E is the sixth trucking or logistics company acquired in the past year by Roadrunner, which increased revenue 33.5 percent last year to $843.6 million.
Roadrunner, a less-than-truckload and truckload carrier, is expanding its portfolio in logistics, drayage and specialized services through acquisition.
“The acquisition of D&E broadens the service offerings within our truckload and logistics business segment,” Roadrunner CEO Mark DiBlasi said.
In particular, D&E expands Roadrunner’s flatbed capacity and customer base. D&E is an asset-light flatbed carrier specializing in food and agricultural products.
D&E’s former owner and management team will remain in place, DiBlasi said. In February, Roadrunner purchased Capital Transportation Logistics in Nashua, N.H., expanding its third-party transportation management business.
Last year Roadrunner acquired Prime Logistics, intermodal specialist The James Brooks Co., M. Bruenger Trucking and drayage company Morgan Southern.
