The California Air Resources Board has warned companies that haul refrigerated cargoes that model year 2005 transportation refrigeration unit engines must comply with the agency’s in-use performance standards by Dec. 31.
Companies will not qualify for compliance extensions if they did not purchase modification equipment such as diesel particulate filters by Oct. 31.
Noncompliant TRUs that don’t qualify for an extension will need to cease operations in California until they can be brought into compliance or risk citation with penalty.
To qualify for compliance extensions because of delayed delivery or installation, the TRU must be registered at Air Resources Board Equipment Registration, www.arb.ca.gov/arber/arber.htm. Compliance extension applications, with attached supporting documents, must be received at CARB by Dec 31.
Visit www.arb.ca.gov/diesel/tru/tru.htm for general information about the TRU regulation.
