Shipping's public image

Shipping is an industry that doesn't spend much time on its image among the general public, and it pays a price for it when there's an accident, oil spill or some other incident that casts the industry before the public eye.
 
The European Commission appears to be trying to remedy that situation with a campaign it plans to launch next year.

Whether the initiative will accomplish its objectives remains to be seen, but the basic idea behind the EC initiative is sound -- any industry that doesn't make an effort to explain itself probably deserves its public image.
