William P. Doyle, who was nominated by President Obama to be a Federal Maritime Commissioner, was recently ceremonially sworn in at the Federal Maritime Commission, following his official swear-in on Jan. 10.
Prior to his appointment, Doyle served 20 years in the maritime and transportation industry, including as the chief of staff for the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association and as an officer in the U.S. Merchant Marine. He has also served as director of permits, scheduling and compliance with the Office of the Federal Coordinator for Alaska Natural Gas Transportation Projects.
As commissioner, Doyle intends to promote the international ocean transportation system, protect the public from unfair practices, help increase the export of U.S. goods, provide regulatory relief to support U.S. economic recovery and find solutions for disputes between shipping lines and customers to keep cargo moving.
