Comoros Joins Harmonized System

Flag of Comoros.The Union of the Comoros has become the 146th contracting party to the International Convention on the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System for merchandise trade.

The country last week deposited its instrument of accession with the secretary general of the World Customs Organization. Comoros has been a member of the WCO since 1993.

The Harmonized System Convention will enter into force in Comoros on Jan. 1, 2015, unless the nation decides to specify an earlier date.

More than 98 percent of international merchandise trade is classified in terms of the Harmonized System, the WCO said.
