Customs to Launch Account Management Pilot

Account management, a form of compliance oversight that has been a high-priority item for the trade, will get a trial run beginning Nov. 1.

Customs and Border Protection on Monday announced that an account management pilot test will begin with low-risk importers in the electronics industry. Account management gives an importer a single point of contact at Customs to quickly resolve issues that might occur at any port of entry.

Customs said Nov. 1 also will be the start of a “center of excellence and expertise” pilot program. It’s aimed specifically at finding ways to expedite trade and manage risk for pharmaceutical importers. The center will be located at Los Angeles International Airport, but can draw on personnel within Customs and other federal agencies who have detail knowledge of pharmaceuticals.
