Total revenue of Indian Railways, operated by the Indian government’s Ministry of Railways, reached Rs. 58649.8 crore (approximately US$1.1 billion) in the period from April 1 to Sept. 30 (the first six months of fiscal year 2012/2013), up 19.8 percent compared with the same period last year.
Freight earnings specifically increased 24.3 percent in those six months, from $615.1 million last year to $764.3 million this year.
Passenger revenue and other earnings also contributed to the jump in overall revenue.
