A train in the Port of Bilbao. In April, MacAndrews will set up a refrigerated train service linking Murcia with Balboa in Spain, in order to reinforce its current European 45-foot container reefer multimodal service.
The train will depart twice weekly, although in the short term, a daily reefer rail service will be established. As a result, MacAndrews will link Spanish horticultural producers with Europe via the MacAndrews vessels operating from the Port of Bilbao.
The project involves two strategic partners: Continental Rail, as a rail operator, and the Fuentes Group, for the management of the Nonduermas rail terminal in Murcia.
In conjunction with the project, the Nonduermas terminal is being remodeled with public tender. The trains will also be enhanced with a novel generator system that supplies the necessary power for the containers to function together with a control system that guarantees the cold chain’s reliability.
