Russian intermodal company TransContainer reported its rail container volume in the fourth quarter of 2012 was about 381,400 20-foot-equivalent units, increasing 5.4 percent from about 362,000 TEUs in the same quarter of 2011.
The year-over-year rise was mainly due to an increase in import and transit transportation, which jumped 14.0 percent and 38.3 percent respectively, partly offset by domestic transportation, which dropped 0.8 percent year-over-year, the company said in a written statement.
TransContainer’s rail container volume for the year 2012 was 1.5 million TEUs, increasing 8.9 percent from 1.4 million TEUs in 2011.
The company’s estimated share in Russia’s rail container transportation market remained flat during 2012 at about 50 percent.
