James Young, chairman, president and CEO of Union Pacific Corp., the largest U.S. railroad, will take a medical leave of absence for treatment of pancreatic cancer.
John Koraleski, executive vice president of market and sales, will serve as acting president and CEO during Young’s absence. Young will remain chairman during his treatment.
"As Jim undergoes his treatment, he has the prayers and support of all 45,000 employees of the UP Team. Our commitment to him, our customers, and our shareholders is continued strong performance of our Company and another record-setting year for Union Pacific," Koraleski said
UP did not disclose how long Young would be absent.
