The Port of Galveston Wharves Board recently approved a $10,000 contribution to the American Association of Port Authorities Port Employee Relief Fund to assist authority staff impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
The fund was created in 2005 by AAPA members who wanted to assist colleagues devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Since then, the money has helped hundreds of port authority employees impacted by natural disasters.
“Having experienced Hurricane Ike and the generosity shown to us by AAPA members during the aftermath of Ike, the port is glad to support a fund that can readily provide assistance to port employees in their time of need,” said Mike Mierzwa, the Texas port’s director.
