Port Freeport generated $17.9 billion of economic activity in Texas in 2011, surging 76 percent from $10.2 billion in 2008, according to a report from port consultant John C. Martin Associates.
During the same three-year span, jobs related to the port grew 21 percent to 66,689; associated personal income jumped 35 percent to nearly $6.2 billion, and state and local tax revenue generated by the port increased 26 percent to $487.1 million, the study found.
A separate report delivered to the Brazosport Chamber of Commerce by Gary Crabtree, director of Texas operations for SI Group, showed that infrastructure investments in Brazoria County, where the port is located, are expected to exceed $20 billion over the next six to seven years.
