The Port of Milwaukee reported a decline in total cargo tonnage in 2012 because of winter weather that led to smaller volumes of salt and coal arriving at the port.
However, the port saw an increase of 34.5 percent in the amount of cargo traveling to and from foreign ports in 2012. A total of 210,406 metric tons of cargo went through either the St. Lawrence Seaway or by the inland river system to overseas ports.
