Dick McKenna, 70, executive director of the Marine Exchange of Southern California, has announced his retirement, effective March 31, 2013.
McKenna leads a staff of 20 civilians and a U.S. Coast Guard contingent of 10, with an annual budget of $2.4 million. As executive director of the nonprofit organization since 2008, he is credited with establishing the Vessel Traffic Service, which monitors the navigation of commercial ship traffic around the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, and overseeing a renewable energy project.
An open recruitment is underway for the position, said Jim Morgan, president of the Marine Exchange board of directors, in a written statement.
