Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal announced at the Georgia Ports Authority board meeting today that he will seek an extra $50 million to fund the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project, as part of his fiscal 2014 budget plan.
If approved, the proposal will increase state funding for the dredging project to $231.1 million. The total cost of the project is expected to be $652 million.
The Record of Decision, signifying federal approval for the project, was issued in October, allowing for construction to begin in 2013.
