All terminals and gatehouses at the Port of New Orleans were operating on normal schedules Tuesday, following disruptions caused by Hurricane Isaac last week.
Since the Mississippi River fully reopened on Sept. 1, Port of New Orleans terminal operators worked a total of 19 ships, including nine container vessels, five breakbulk cargo vessels, three cruise ship calls and two refrigerated cargo vessels.
“We’ve been able to efficiently work through the backlog of vessels Hurricane Isaac caused,” Port President and CEO Gary LaGrange said. “During the entire duration of the four-day river closure, only two vessels bound for the Port of New Orleans canceled their calls here.”
LaGrange cited terminal operators Ports America, New Orleans Terminal, Pacorini Global, Coastal Cargo Co., Empire Stevedoring and New Orleans Cold Storage for their efforts to ensure commerce returned to the port’s docks as soon as the U.S. Coast Guard reopened the river.
