Dennis Daggett, son of International Longshoremen’s Association president-in-waiting Harold Daggett, is the new president of the ILA’s Atlantic Coast District, which covers ports from Maine to Virginia.
Harold Daggett is scheduled to take over as ILA international president Thursday, succeeding Richard Hughes Jr., who is not seeking re-election. The union is holding its quadrennial convention this week in Hollywood, Fla.
The younger Daggett had been secretary-treasurer of the Atlantic district. He was elected by district delegates last week to succeed Stephen Knott, who is in line to join the international union’s executive board as general vice president.
Other new district officers include James Stolpinski, secretary-treasurer, and Michael Vigneron, general vice president. Stopinski heads the ILA’s Local 920 in Staten Island, N.Y. Vigneron is secretary-treasurer of Local 1804-1, representing maintenance-repair workers in New Jersey.
