The Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners Wednesday approved construction projects totaling $127 million to modernize the TraPac terminal. The projects are part of a $365 million expansion of the terminal to be completed by 2016.
Work will begin in January on a new administration building that will meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design gold standard.
Also, work will begin on a new truck entrance and exit gate complex. Also included are backland and infrastructure improvements.
A second contract for a road-rail grade-separation project involves construction of an elevated 4,100-foot roadway linking local streets with TraPac’s new entrance complex.
The port in 2009 signed a 30-year lease agreement with TraPac and its parent company, Mitsui O.S.K. Line, to expand the container terminal and introduce productivity-enhancing improvements.
The Port of Los Angeles is investing $1.2 billion over the next five years to expand and improve facilities and transportation infrastructure throughout the harbor.
