Port Canaveral Leads Local Haitian Relief Effort

What: The Canaveral Port Authority in partnership Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines International and Port Canaveral tenants Ambassador Services Inc. and American Cruise Aid Logistics is coordinating efforts to provide aid to earthquake victims in Haiti. The community is being asked to donate water and dry food products, such as beans and rice, as well as cooking oil. The items should be placed in cardboard boxes for easier storage and shipping. Some 30 pallets will be shipped aboard Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas when it sails from its homeport at Canaveral on January 24. The ship arrives in Labadee, Haiti two days later. Royal Caribbean is working with established relief agencies-- Food for the Poor and Pan American Development Foundation, a division of the Organization of American States. The agencies will be responsible for warehousing and delivery of donations to the people of Haiti. Both agencies have worked with the cruise agency in other relief efforts. The operations will be conducted under U.N. supervision and with assistance from the State Department.
