French ocean carrier CMA CGM imposed a general rate increase on westbound trade moving on its Epic service from India to North Europe and the Mediterranean, starting Feb. 1.
The planned increase on dry and refrigerated cargo will be $200 per 20-foot container and $400 per 40-foot high cube container.
“In a continued effort to provide reliable and efficient services, CMA CGM has decided to restore freight rates between India and North Europe-Mediterranean-Baltic-Black Sea-North Africa trades to a sustainable level,” CMA CGM India said in a trade notice.
The Epic is a fixed-day weekly service, calling Southampton, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Antwerp, Le Havre, Piraeus, Khor Fakkan, Jebel Ali, Port Qasim, Nhava Sheva (Jawaharlal Nehru), Mundra, Jeddah, Malta, Tangiers and back to Southampton.
CMA CGM’s move follows similar GRI announcements by other major carriers operating on the same routes, including Mediterranean Shipping, Hapag-Lloyd, United Arab Shipping and Zim Integrated Shipping Services.
