International Transport Workers’ Federation inspectors, along with dockers’ and seafarers’ union members, will begin the first East Asian maritime action week of 2013 today across ports in Japan, Korea, Russia and Taiwan. The action week will run until Feb. 1.
Joint inspection teams will check and enforce decent pay and working conditions onboard vessels, with particular attention paid to informing seafarers of their rights under the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, which will come into force in August.
