L-3 Communications’ acquisition of a provider of cargo radiation detection systems gives the security giant new screening technologies, including a radiation detector that is affixed to a terminal straddle carrier.
L-3 Security & Detection Systems didn’t disclose the terms of the acquisition of Detector Networks International.
“With the DNI acquisition L-3 now offers highly advanced radiation detection in a standalone application or as an integrated part of our cargo solutions,” said Thomas Ripp, president of L-3 Security & Detection Systems.
DNI’s radiation detection systems for straddle carriers uses secondary scans to resolve alarms so containers don’t need to be opened unnecessarily. The Albuquerque, N.M.-based company has working relationships with a number of laboratories and has a significant contract with a U.S. government agency, L-3 said.
