Box Ships Expands Container Ship Fleet

Box Ships took delivery Monday of its eighth vessel, the OOCL Hong Kong, a secondhand vessel built in 1995 with capacity of 5,344 20-foot equivalent units.

The ship is leased to OOCL for a period of 36 months at a net daily rate of $26,465.

Box Ships said it will acquire another 5,344-TEU container ship built in 1996, the OOCL China, which is expected to be delivered on or prior to July 14. It will also be chartered to OOCL for a period of 36 months at a net daily rate of $26,465.

After taking delivery of the OOCL China, Athens-based Box Ships, which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, will have a fleet of nine vessels with a nominal carrying capacity of 43,925 TEUs.
