FEMA Readies Supplies for Haiti at Port Everglades

The Federal Emergency Management Association has staged 92 truckloads of commodities at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for shipment to Haiti, the White House said.

The goods include approximately 500,000 meals, 19,500 blankets, 289,600 liters of water, 19,960 hygiene kits, 8,400 cots, 41,890 tarps and 560 rolls of plastic sheeting.

Because of damage to ports, only limited shipments have arrived in Haiti directly by sea. Carriers are moving shipments to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic and overland to Haiti.

U.S. officials said four distribution hubs, nine landing zones and one air delivery zone have been established for food and water distribution.
