Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. plans to lease up to 10 new mega-ships from Seaspan Corp., Reuters reports.
The Taiwanese ocean carrier will charter five of the 14,000-TEU ships for 10 years and has an option on five more, according to spokesman Winsor Huang. The ships, which will have a capacity of 14,000 20-foot-equivalent units, will likely be built by a South Korean shipbuilder, Huang told Reuters.
The vessels will be Yang Ming’s first mega-ships.
