Wan Hai Lines to Raise Rates on Asia Cargo

Wan Hai Lines will increase rates for all cargoes originating from Asia, starting March 8, Taipei Times reports.

For cargo originating in China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Southeast Asian countries and bound for other Asian destinations, the increase will be $50 per 20-foot-equivalent unit and $100 per 40-foot-equivalent unit or high-cube container. From Asia to the Middle East, the hike will be $500 per TEU and $1,000 per FEU or high-cube container. Rates for cargoes from Asia to India and Pakistan will increase by $300 per TEU and $600 per FEU or high-cube container.

“The hike is to reflect costs, as cargo rates have been dragged down to a lower level than before we raised rates in March last year,” said Davis Kao, Wan Hai vice president, to a Taipei Times reporter.
