TransAtlantic today acquired the operations of Finnish shipping company Merilinja through an asset deal, in which the Swedish shipping company purchases all of Merilinja’s assets, including customer contracts, and assumes its chartered-in vessels.
Merilinja offers feeder services within container shipping between Finland and Belgium with revenues of about SEK 100 million (US$15 million) per year.
The company expects the agreement will increase business because of improved competitiveness, said Helene Mellquist, TransAtlantic’s CEO of industrial shipping.
