Average trans-Pacific spot rates this week eased off from their recent high of two weeks ago when carriers that belong to the Transpacific Stabilization Agreement put into effect a general rate increase of $300 per 40-foot equivalent unit.
The Drewry benchmark for shipping an FEU from Hong Kong to Los Angeles slid by 0.4 percent to $2,004 per FEU from the $2,013 level of the last two weeks.
This week’s benchmark is still 13.2 percent higher than the rate of $1,771 per FEU that prevailed before the March 15 GRI. It is also 18.4 percent higher than in the same week last year, when the rate was $1,693 per FEU.
