OOCL's total revenue increased 17.2 percent to $1.329 billion in the first quarter from $1.134 billion in the same quarter last year, its parent company OOIL said Tuesday.
The volume of containers transported by OOCL increased 12.6 percent in the first quarter to 1.18 million 20-foot-equivalent units from a year earlier.
In releasing the first-quarter operating results for OOCL, OOIL said OOCL's load factor declined 2.9 percent from a year earlier because the Hong Kong-based carrier's loadable vessel capacity increased 16.8 percent from a year ago.
OOCL had one of the biggest operating margins in container shipping over the past two years, according to Alphaliner.
Overall average revenue per TEU increased 4.2 percent from a year earlier.
First-quarter volume increased 9.7 percent on the trans-Pacific trade, 8.3 percent on the Asia-Europe trade, 4.3 percent on the trans-Atlantic and 12.6 percent on the intra-Asia and Australasian trades.
