Safmarine took delivery of its latest container ship on Monday, the Safmarine Chachai, which was specially built for the African trades by Hyundai Heavy Industries of South Korea.
The Safmarine Chachai, with capacity of 4,500 20-foot equivalent units, is geared, equipped with onboard cranes to service ports that don’t have container cranes.
It joins sister ships Safmarine Chilka and Safmarine Chambal in the A.P Moller-Maersk fleet.
The Safmarine Chachai and its sister ships are fitted with super long-stroke main engines and a waste heat recovery system to reduce emissions and save fuel.
