OOCL reported positive operating results Friday for the second quarter ended June 30, with strong increases in both container volume and revenue.
The Hong Kong-based carrier’s total volume was 6.7 percent higher than in the same quarter last year. Revenue increased 10.6 percent year-over-year to $1,560.3 million.
Although loadable vessel capacity increased 7.3 percent in the quarter, its overall load factor was only 0.5 percent lower than the same period in 2011. Overall average revenue per 20-foot equivalent container unit improved 3.7 percent compared to the second quarter of last year.
OOCL’s results for the first six months of 2012 were not quite as good because its first quarter revenue slipped 0.9 percent year-over-year, dragging overall results for the six-month period down slightly.
Total volume for the six-month period increased 6.1 percent over the same period last year, while total revenue recorded a 5.0 percent increase.
Loadable capacity increased 9.8 percent, and the overall load factor was 2.6 percent lower than the corresponding period in 2011. Overall average revenue per TEU eased off 1 percent compared to the same period last year.
