DENVER, CO, June 28, 2011 – The Board of Directors of the Intermodal Transportation Institute (ITI) at the University of Denver recently elected Michelle D. Livingstone as its newest addition to the esteemed ITI Board. Additionally, two ITI Board members who retired from the ITI Board have been elected to ITI Board Emeritus status. The ITI Board consists of more than 50 executives and leaders from freight transportation, passenger transportation, and shipping companies.
Michelle D. Livingstone is Vice President of Transportation for The Home Depot, where she is responsible for leading a highly talented team that oversees the movement of shipments into and within The Home Depot’s multi-channel supply chain. This includes inbound shipments from domestic vendors, all direct imports, and customer deliveries of appliances and store merchandise.
Upon retirement from the ITI Board, Board members may be elected by the current membership to the ITI Board Members Emeriti, which carries a life membership and honors them for their service to ITI and to the ITI Board. John D. Bowe has been a strong supporter of ITI and its programs. While an executive with APL, he sponsored and supported many of the 12 APL employees that enrolled in the ITI MS Program and institutionalized support for the ITI graduate program within APL. He has also served as Vice-Chairman of the ITI Board of Directors. Alan Stone, a representative of a shipper company – Stone Container Corporation, is a founding member of the ITI Board of Directors and a long-time friend of former University of Denver Chancellor Daniel L. Ritchie.
“The ITI Board is very pleased to welcome Ms. Livingstone to the ITI Board of Directors,” said George Woodward, President of the ITI Board of Directors. “As the Intermodal Transportation Institute enters its second decade, the support and encouragement of major users of intermodal transportation is important to shaping our future educational offerings and underscores the cooperative nature of the complex global supply chains. We look forward to Ms. Livingstone’s contributions and participation as ITI expands its educational programs to help meet the challenges of preparing the next generation of transportation and supply-chain industry management.”
Woodward continued: “John Bowe and Alan Stone have both been long and faithful directors of the ITI Board and fully deserve their election to Emeritus status. Alan Stone was an ITI Founding Director in 1997, and he provided the important input of major users of intermodal transportation and encouraged broadening the educational programs to include a supply-chain perspective. As Vice Chairman of the Board, John Bowe was a key proponent of solidifying industry support for ITI’s Executive Masters Program among major transportation carriers. The wise counsel of both Alan Stone and John Bowe in our formative years was crucial to the success of ITI and our unique, joint academic/industry approach that supports transportation management development programs.”
