Truckload line-haul costs for November rose 1.4 percent from October and 2.7 percent from November 2011, as costs moved modestly upward for the second straight month, according to Cass Truckload Linehaul Index.
The year-over-year gap in the growth of truckload rates tracked by the index increased for the second consecutive month, following a steady decline from February to September.
The truckload pricing index, which uses January 2005 as its base month, increased to 111.3, the highest reading in 2012.
Intermodal rates also increased in November, rising 1.6 percent from October and 0.4 percent year-over-year, according to the Cass Intermodal Linehaul Index.
The intermodal pricing index, which also uses January 2005 as its base, increased to 103.6, up from 102.0 in October.
The November increases were likely the result of Hurricane Sandy, said Avondale Partners’ Donald Broughton in Avondale’s monthly report.
