Miami-based transportation and trucking company Ryder System today announced that Gregory T. Swienton, chairman and CEO, will retire at the time of the company’s annual meeting of shareholders on May 3, 2013.
Robert E. Sanchez, Ryder’s president and chief operating officer, will assume the company’s CEO role on Jan. 1, and will succeed Swienton as chairman at the annual meeting, as part of the succession plan approved by the company’s board of directors.
Swienton joined Ryder in June 1999 as president and chief operating officer, until he became president and CEO in November 2000. He has been a member of the board of directors since June 1999 and was named its chairman in November 2000.
Sanchez is a 19-year employee of Ryder who has served in senior executive leadership positions in operations, finance and information technology. He has been a member of the company’s executive leadership team since 2003.
