Manitoulin Group Expands in Western Canada

Manitoulin Global Forwarding, an international freight forwarder is expanding in western Canada, acquiring Can-Tran International of Leduc, Alberta.

Can-Tran is Manitoulin Global’s second acquisition in Canada’s West in two months. In May, the forwarder acquired Beler International of Regina, Saskatchewan.

Can-Tran is “a major player inwWestern Canada, with a solid base of loyal clients,” said Dwayne Hihn, president of Manitoulin Global Forwarding.

The Alberta companies specializes in the region’s fast-growing oil and gas industry, “a growth sector we already service and intend to build on,” Hihn said.

Manitoulin Global is part of the Mississauga, Ontario-based Manitoulin Group, which includes trucking operator Manitoulin Transport.

Last year, Manitoulin Transport opened a 100,000-square-foot terminal in Alberta and acquired the less-than-truckload business of Manitoba-based Penner International.

Manitoulin also partners with New England Motor Freight of Elizabeth, N.J., to speed freight from the northeastern U.S. throughout Canada.
