Amazon.com plans to build its eighth logistics center in China this year, Chinese officials said Tuesday.
The company's newest warehouse is slated for construction in Kunshan, a city in China's Jiangsu Province. Once finished, it will be the online retailer's largest logistics center in the country at 100,000 square meters.
Amazon currently has warehouses located in several Chinese cities, including Beijing and Shanghai.
According to reports, Amazon this week scratched plans to build a distribution center in South Carolina after learning that the state denied the company's request for tax exemption.
In March the company announced it was building a 1 million-square-foot logistics center in Rheinberg, Germany, in the western part of the country, scaling up the online retailer's distribution capacity in Europe.
The distribution center near Duisburg will be Amazon's fifth in Germany and position goods along rail and highway routes near the population centers of Dusseldorf and Essen and within 120 miles of the UPS hub at the Cologne Airport.
Amazon.com is the U.S.'s largest online retailer, with major sales coming from electronics, books and the company's own Kindle, a tablet book reader.
According to reports, Amazon is planning to add color Kindles to their inventory, due to be on sale to the public before this year's holiday season.
Last week the company reported revenue was up in the first quarter 38 percent to $9.86 billion year-over-year.
