FedEx is facing a $681,200 fine after the Federal Aviation Administration on Wednesday accused the parcel giant of failing to properly document hazardous material shipments in August 2010.
The FAA said FedEx “improperly accepted several dozen shipments” of hazardous cargo across the country between Aug. 2 and Aug. 12, 2010. The agency also accused the carrier of failing to give pilots of flights to and from Los Angeles “accurate and legible written information” regarding hazardous material shipments.
"To ensure the safe transport of hazardous materials aboard aircraft, operators must follow appropriate rules and procedures, and provide proper training," said Acting FAA Administrator Michael P. Huerta.
The FAA also accuses FedEx of failing to document the hazardous materials training and testing for three people who were involved in handling the cargo for the carrier. FedEx has 30 days to respond to the proposed penalty.
