Emirates SkyCargo launched a new service to Phuket, Thailand, expanding the carrier’s weekly capacity to the country to more than 640 tons.
Phuket is the second Thai destination to be connected to the freight division of Emirates’ global network, which now totals 126 destinations.
The daily Phuket service utilizes an Airbus 340-300 with a bellyhold capacity of 13 tons. Emirates also operates services from Dubai to Bangkok four times a day.
Imports into Phuket by air are mainly meat, spare parts, diving equipment, office supplies and fish. Top exports include tuna, live shrimp and crab, according to Emirates.
“Thailand is a major economic center in Southeast Asia,” said Ram Menen, Emirates’ divisional senior vice president of cargo. “Phuket, which is a very popular tourist destination, plays an important role in Thailand’s economy and with the launch of this service we will be able to connect businesses on the island to opportunities across our ever-expanding global network.”
